Hi, I've just purchased a 1960's bubblecut Barbie doll that is marked 1557 across the inside top of her right leg . The number runs straight across. I
have 5 other Barbie's but although some have numbers on their legs, none has a number like this. Could it be that someone has exchanged her original legs,
or did Mattel mark some early dolls this way? Many thanks for any answers

Hi Vintagedolly, as far as I can tell those numbers were used by the factory to assemble the doll, and the numbers can be any number.
I don't know when they started doing this, so can't say for certain if the leg was switched. So I'd try to determine if the legs match in color, etc., that's about all you can do. BTW, thank you for helping to ID doll questions, always appreciate the help. |
